On July 5, Cal Athletics announced the selection of new head baseball coach, Mike Neu. Mike becomes the eleventh head coach in program history.
As the Bears’ pitching coach from 2012-2015, Mike played a significant role in rebuilding the program after its elimination and reinstatement in 2011, returning to the NCAA regionals in 2015, and achieving a top 10 ranking.
In their letter to the Cal baseball alumni, the Cal Baseball Foundation’s Alumni Relations coordinators, John Hughes and Jesse Ingram, encourage all alumni to support the program’s transition under Mike’s leadership and his vision for continuing the legacy of greatness both on the field and in the classroom.
Message from Mike Neu
I am extremely grateful and excited for the future of Cal Baseball and look forward to the challenges ahead. The experiences and relationships that I have developed in my previous four years at Cal were some of the greatest memories in my life. To be a small part of the program’s resurrection, to a regional team, and an eventual top 10 ranking was unbelievably exciting and gratifying.
I know that we will have to continue to work hard to carry on this great tradition. The history of greatness associated with this program both on and off of the field is unparalleled, and we will continue to live up to that standard. I am confident that my experiences and path through adversity will be a great source of leadership for this program.
I want to thank everyone involved with Cal Baseball for the support and loyalty. We have a great group of returning players and our goal will be to win a Pac-12 championship. I really hope that you all continue to stay involved and share in the success of our program. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
